Priorities

Nnamdi has a strong record of quality legislation, but his campaign is focused on continued community service for Wilmington and the State of Delaware.

Education

Education

  • Educational Equity
Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full academic and social potential.

  • Providing mental health support in schools
Today's children are dealing with unprecedented change and social pressures. We need to provide them with support to control our mental health crisis.

  • Providing comprehensive support for high-needs students, schools, and teachers
We have a severe shortage of resources dedicated to children with special needs and the people who help them.

Public safety

Public safety

  • Target illegal firearms
The vast majority of the handguns and other weapons used in Wilmington's violent crimes are illegally owned

  • Support re-entry into the community
Two-thirds of incarcerations will end with a repeat offense in three years. The best thing we can do to reduce crime is to support a stable re-entry into society.

Jobs and growth

Jobs and growth

  • Support small businesses and non-profits
Wilmington has potential to be at the center of a small business renaissance in the Mid-Atlantic. Service-oriented non-profits are an important part of this movement.

  • Continue development of the N. Market St business corridor
North Market Street forms the backbone of North Wilmington. Businesses and offices have been encouraged to grow here through the DDD program and other initiatives.

Criminal justice reform

Criminal justice reform

  • Bail reform that incarcerates only dangerous criminals
Our current bail system in Delaware works in a way that disenfranchises the poor, regardless of the severity of the crime committed. Rep. Chukwuocha has spearheaded the charge to amend our state's constitution to fix this injustice.

Veterans affairs

Veterans affairs

  • Provide veterans with mental health services
A soldier in a veteran family, Nnamdi has seen what troubles our troops and their families face. Mental health support is tragically underfunded for a population with deep trauma.

  • Provide veterans with housing support
Homelessness has long been an issue for veterans in this country. For those who dedicate their lives to public safety, this is unacceptable.

Affordable housing

Affordable housing

  • Increase the amount of affordable housing
Unaffordable housing happens when we do not have enough units to support our population. We need to create stable and sustainable growth in our housing market before Wilmington is subject to the crisis facing so many other cities.

  • Support low income citizens' ability to maintain their home

Senior services

Senior services

  • Give a voice to seniors living in high rises

  • Support the aging in place community
Facility care is extremely expensive, and most of us do not want to lose our independence.

  • Defend the senior tax credit

  • Increase the amount of senior housing options
This includes increasing the accessibility of existing units while developing new ones

Environment and energy

Energy and environment

  • Grow and preserve our parks and green spaces

  • Clean up brownfields for development
Significant portions of our city are plagued by old industrial sites and empty lots that are undesirable for new projects like housing and commercial spaces

  • Fight uncontrolled rate hikes
With advancing climate change, we are seeing power bills soar with harsher weather. This is to be expected, but power rates cannot go without regulation if electricity is to be affordable for everyone.

  • Increase the use of sustainable energy sources
Delaware is currently the state most reliant on natural gas for electricity generation––we should be leading the charge on sustainable sources of all kinds that both provide us with the power we need and prevent further damaging our planet.
